Al, re: Democrats said the documents provided more questions than answers and offered no evidence that Bush ever showed up for duty in Alabama from May to November 1972 while he working on a political campaign there. There will be endless argument on this. But anybody that was draft age during Vietnam remembers that the National Guard was the only real option to get out of the draft in that period. And the waiting list was huge... but if you had connections, you could avoid the list and get right in. I know this from personal experience, you didn't even have to have Bush level connections. That said, I wouldn't blame anyone for avoiding Vietnam, in any way they could. It was a really bad war, even worse than Iraq. You had a really good chance of coming home dead, shot up, or mentally ill. And it was for nothing, as we all suspected and as history has proved. Yet the people I know that got the opportunity for the National Guard dodge at least showed up. John
