Pope John Paul II is very beloved among Catholics, in part perhaps because for many he is the only one they've ever known, but also because he just is a very fine man. John Paul XXII is the last one to have been so loved.

Brits of course have been no lovers of the Catholic faith for centuries. The animosity between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland is just the most obvious example.
