my guess is that Rice's "negative" ratings are through the roof. Her hard ass position wrt war, plus lying about those aluminum tubes makes her undesirable in general terms, and then you add the fact that this is a woman's position and the country isn't ready for it, jmo.

If Bush loses, the GOP will need to completely clean house. New leaders will emerge, people who are now starting to doubt Bush. Plus McCain will get a big boost. Those will be the new leaders if Bush loses, and I think he will. Also it's time for GOP moderates to start taking back a chnk of their party. If voters reject the doctrine of the Christian right in 2004 then they will be defanged and moderates can move back in with more authority. Once upon a time the GOP was a fairly moderate party. Bush Sr. was once a moderate.
