John,
More importantly over 100 good iraqis were killed in the last two days by 2 suicide bombings. This is getting more and more like vietnam at least in the Sunni Triangle and i am not sure that we can really achieve our goals there at all. Best we can do at this point is to try to keep this terrorism out of the shiia and kurd areas. UNLESS we are really prepared to crack down in the triangle and control the areas as we did in WW2 for instance. That probably would require at least a double of our forces or the entry of other nations, perhaps Arab ones? Regardless of the veracity of the decision to go to war, every nation in the world now does have a dog in this fight, particularly the arabs. If the saudis want to raise the price of oil a bit to fund it as it seems they do, so be it. Let them finance egyptian and jordanian troops. mike@stheplanisnotworking.com
PS some shaekup in command either at secy defense, the military, or even the VP would be a good thing for bush. Someone should have fired mc namara in 1964, dont you think?
