Depending on what you're taking you'll get different side effects. If any of them are unbearable there are several different ones. Just be aware that these are kind of long term drugs, and what makes you feel good for a few weeks may evolve into something you don't like a few months from now. In addition, if you decide you want to take something else you'll need to wean yourself off of them to prevent a rebound spike in your blood pressure. Like you, I was getting panic attacks due to hypothyroidism, thyroid replacement. As I am mildy hypertensive, I decided to take beta blockers. When I first started taking them, I noticed a marked improvement in both blood pressure, and the extra clock speed for my heart. Over time, I lived to regret. Atenolol,(tenormin) made me wobbly(tired, loss of fine motor skill) all day and got worse the longer I took it. It is supposed to be the best in that it doesn't cross the blood brain barrier, but did not work for me. Metoprolol,(lopressor) worked quite well for several months to a year, but tended to wipe me out a few hours after taking them(headache, tired). Again, the longer I took them the worse this got. Finally I settled on Metoprolol-extended release tablets or Toprol-XL. These seemed to work the best for me without the 2-3 hour after pill wipeout. I just bot some AZN stock, but I'm not trying to sell you their stuff. Most people recommend you take these after breakfast, because they can disturb sleep. If you are taking them at bedtime you may feel as though you're getting a good night's sleep, but you will be tired all day. The best advice I can give you is: regular mild exercise, and plenty of water, and a good diet will do a lot to get rid of the panic attacks, and help you with your sleep.
