Wall Street applauds "Greenspeak"

The major indices have added to earlier gains with the S&P 500
Index (SPX.X) 1,156.87 +1.0% moving to a fresh 52-week high as
Wall Street reacts favorably to today's Greenspan testimony,
while merger related news fuels brokerage stocks, on thoughts
that merger-related activity will be heating up.

The Securities Broker/Dealer Index ($XBD.X) 730.62 +3.9%
continues to press higher in today's session with gains being
lead by Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) $107.01 +4.73% and Lehman
Brothers (NYSE:LEH) $86.85 +7.16%, on speculation that recent
merger activity will bolster profits among investment bankers.

Broader technology is showing some lag in today's trade with
NASDAQ-100 (NDX.X) 1,508.80 +0.56% heavyweight Cisco Systems
(NASDAQ:CSCO) $24.25 -2.13% trading lower as investor appear to
still be digesting the company's recently quarterly earnings and
forward guidance, opting instead for names outside of technology.

Dow component Hewlett Packard (NYSE:HPQ) $24.36 +0.99% has
exhibited late-session weakness after trading a session high of
$25.00 after the company issued Q1 guidance. HPQ said it sees Q1
(January) EPS of $0.35, excluding items, which was in line with
consensus estimates of $0.35, and revenues of $19.5 billion,
which was slightly above current consensus of $19.4 billion. HPQ
is scheduled to officially announce quarterly earnings on
February 19th.
