Dollar Falls to Four-Week Low Versus Euro on Greenspan Comments
Feb. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The dollar tumbled to a four-week low against the euro and fell versus 15 other major currencies after Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said U.S. interest rates are ``appropriate.'' Greenspan's remarks boosted speculation U.S. yields will remain lower than in the euro region and other major economies such as the U.K., where the pound surged to its highest since 1992. The dollar's two-year slide hasn't caused any ``material adverse'' effect, the Fed chairman said. ``It makes me think Greenspan is not concerned over the decline in the dollar and the impact on the economy,'' said Paresh Upadhyaya, who helps manage $70 billion as a currency strategist at Putnam Investments in Boston. ``The euro is going to make a pretty good attempt at trying to break $1.50.''
