I find it hard to believe that evangelical Christians would vote for Gore.

You oversimplify the situation. Many southern evangelical Christians are traditionally Democrats, and wouldn't vote for one of them Republicans to save their lives. Jimmy Carter, for example, garnered a lot of evangelical Christians support, and still sways Southern voters today toward the Democratic party.

I agree, oversimplification and prejudice are a big deal. As you grow older, you will realize that humans are more complex than you presently give them credit for.
