Steve, Iraq already is in civil war. And, yes, we're caught in the middle of it. Seems we can only protect the oil industry--we can't protect our own soldiers, we can't protect Iraq's police, we can't protect Iraq's citizenry.

I suspect the way this Iraq debacle will finally conclude will be when a new hardliner muscles his way into power, much like Saddam. And, like Saddam, he'll be closely allied with the US in order to maintain the military might necessary to put people in check. And because of this, the US will get the oversight into the oil deals.

I doubt very much that Bush will let Shiite leader Sistani win the battle for democracy in Iraq. Interestingly, Sistani's views on women are similar to those of the Taliban. Hey, how 'bout that one, folks!

Iraq may get worse not better. the fundamental strategy was too flawed. When you base a war on a lie you have to scramble to fix it. Unfortunately that costs many lives and huge amounts of dollars. Kerry is right when he says Bush put our forces in needless harm. Macho goes out the window when you're getting blown up by a bomb. This ain't John Wayne at Iwo Jima. This is the "New War" (book by John Kerry). Kery wil save our troops, don't worry. Just wish it were tomorrow not ten months from now.
