<You and Maurice are two of the best people I have ever encountered on the Internet.>

That's pretty cool. How many days have you been using the Internet? I have suspected I'm a kind of supernatural being and certainly on a par with Mao. I'm trying to organize some acolytes for worship, but people like Yiwu, Ramsey and Jay [not to mention that dreaded iconoclast Raymond Duray] refuse to recognize my stature [or have a fun-house mirror view of it].

Anyway, I think you are one of the best people I have ever come across too. I don't know about that Malcolm guy though. There's not a lot of room for two at the top. Look what Stalin did to Trotsky and Mao did to Deng's son. But Malcolm is well into his pension years, like Jiang Zemin, so like Hu Jintao I can afford to bide my time. I don't like icky stuff.

Hello Mary, Thanks for the praise and for your poetic description of human progress. However you may have me mixed up with somebody else. I do not share Maurice's technooptimism. I think humanity is in danger from all the violent people, great danger. People such as the Bush crowd, violent Moslems, violent Zionists, violent Sikhs, Tamil tigers, North Korea gang, belligerent religious people of all stripes. The atom bomb has been invented and 60 years later all we see is proliferation. Some madman will use them sooner or later. I don't think Maurice's fragmented photons will necessarily save us. Aside from that, it looks like history will take a few years rest from progress as the world copes with the coming collapse of the US borrow now, charge it to the rest of the world economy. I'm a wistful optimist. Determined to see reality as it is, not as we hope.
