"Dr. Mossad doesn't believe the question of zinc's usefulness has been settled. "The bottom line is that it's inconclusive," he says."

WSJ->ACHES & CLAIMS Zinc May Not Zonk Your Cold
With winter coming on, legions of common-cold sufferers may be tempted by pitches for zinc-based nasal sprays and other preparations whose labels claim they have been "clinically proven" to reduce the severity or duration of colds. Many researchers beg to differ.

* * *

Of the 15 clinical studies of zinc-based remedies during the past two decades, only seven have shown beneficial effects. The rest failed to detect any such effects, and scientists are still arguing over the contradictory results.

Since many zinc-based lozenges, nasal sprays and nasal gels sell for roughly $10, consumers may be tempted to play the odds. The preparations, however, can cause side effects such as nasal stinging, bad taste and nausea. Some researchers also believe that in rare cases, nasal gels containing zinc might permanently damage the sense of smell, although that finding is the subject of continuing research.

As a result, it remains unclear whether zinc-based remedies really do much for cold sufferers.

The lack of certainty hasn't stopped the makers of such products from embracing positive studies in their marketing while omitting those that tell a different story. Earlier this year, for instance, Sherif Mossad, a researcher at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation published a study of a zinc-based nasal gel sold by Matrixx Initiatives Inc. of Phoenix. That product, brand-named Zicam, appeared to lessen the severity of colds while reducing their duration by almost 30%, to an average of 4.3 days from six days. Dr. Mossad's study randomly assigned patients to receive either zinc or a placebo and "blinded" the process so that neither patients nor doctors knew which subjects were treated with zinc .

Matrixx, which funded Dr. Mossad's study, now touts that finding, together with the results of an older 2000 study from the Center for Integrative Medicine in Tarzana, Calif., as evidence that Zicam is "clinically proven" to reduce cold severity and duration.

The company doesn't advertise studies that failed to find its product effective. A 2001 study at the Medical University of South Carolina -- also funded by Matrixx -- tested Zicam in patients who were deliberately infected with rhinovirus, the most common cold-causing virus, but saw no impact on the rate of infection or cold severity. Matrixx says that negative study, which was undertaken by the company's previous management, was "flawed from the beginning."

Dr. Mossad doesn't believe the question of zinc's usefulness has been settled. "The bottom line is that it's inconclusive," he says.

Bear that in mind before buying into the zinc-marketing hype.

Why cut your dog's balls off? Now there's zinc gluconate! That's
right. Now, there's Neutersol. Neutersol is the zinc gluconate way to
render your dog completely sterile! Once injected in to your dogs
testicles, (by an experienced homeopathic veternarian only) it's curtains for those kahunas! Experience total, complete and irreversible sterilization for your dog: All thanks to the miracle of zinc gluconate Neutersol.

neutersol.com

Results indicate that intratesticular injection of zinc gluconate
neutralized by arginine based on testicular width is an extremely
effective method for non-surgical sterilization of male puppies and
that it is safe regardless of age and breed of the animal.
==========================

Really??? Here's a great idea. Because of Davidson's Biopharmceutical Project Management background, experience and Diploma Mill PhD?MBA, Matrixx should pay Davidson some additional funds to look into it as a potential new Homeopathic Sterilization process for guys. And here's the good part. No safety research would be required! After all, it's zinc gluconate; one of the safest most effective ingredients known to man. And, no known side effects either; with the exception of tawdry typical male behavior such as roaming, crotch grabbing, marking, aggression, or mounting.

YET ANOTHER "ZICAMMED" LAW SUIT POSTED ON YAHOO

This guy sounds like a corporate defense lawyer and/or corporate spin doctor and/or stock pumper.

He presumes to try these serious cases in advance in his own mind, dismissing them outright as meritless, and endeavors to persuade others to do the same. He attempts to wrongfully portray the risk from these lawsuits as negligible to prospective MTXX shareholders in an effort to generate stock purchases.

Whether there are prescription medications that can potentially affect the sense of smell is completely irrelevant to your prospective investment. Zicam is not a prescription medication, and has not been subjected to the same rigorous screening that prescription medications are. The FDA analyzes data from medication clinical trials in different ways, considering the relative seriousness of side effects and the incidence of side effects, and balancing them against the benefit of the medication and the seriousness of the underlying disease or disorder to be treated.

Yesterday another Zicam anosmia lawsuit was filed against Matrixx Initiatives, Inc. and Zicam, LLC, among others. The case is Ringbauer v. Matrixx Initiatives, Inc., et al., Superior Court of Arizona, Maricopa County, Cause No. CV2004-002822. It was filed by two nationally known medical products liability and class action firms.

If you think lawyers like this are reckless ambulance chasers, you are wrong. These are the big boys.

Don't let idiots like this shameless pumper convince you there's no risk. We have just seen the tip of the iceberg, and, in my opinion, MTXX is cruising toward it like the Titanic. If you invest in this company now, you had better do it with eyes wide open. In my opinion, if you are not in a position to take a sizeable risk, there are greener pastures to explore. This ship is in for a rough ride.

All situations like this are subject to interpretation and opinion. Of that there is no doubt. This is my opinion--take it for what it's worth to you.

However, for ANYONE to suggest that there is little to no risk from this burgeoning litigation problem is nothing shorty of idiocy.

RE:"GunnAllenLies" To funny, I got home tonight and Mr. Parker, Matrixx's attorney cc me on a subpoena to Yahoo. Looks like alias "GunnAllenLies" will be added to the Matrixx SLAPP SUIT

GNLN IS MTXX. which is a J Gunn Puppet - It is not GNLN OR MTXX, they are the same thing. GNLN is and always has pulled all the strings here. How did you like that repeat of PR, just in time? You think that is an accident? One might want to see the cell phone bills from certain long time MTXX/GUMM employees (Hemelt?) to J GUNN of GNLN and oh say the head trader there. It, one surmises, will become painfully obvious with respect to press releases, the timing of the PR, etc as to who really runs this stock. Hint: Don't think it is Johnson. - by: gunnallenlies

I will let you speak w/ SEC, FDA, NASD - I will let you and anyone else who is really honest speak w/ the SEC, FDA, NASD and other Federdal Agencies. In fact, anyone with anosmia will also encourage it. This company is and always has been a fraud. That it is now buried in civil lawsuits is only the beginning. The next step is Criminal Indictments for Gunn Allen and those who aided and abetted this fraud for so many years. Like I said, 80% of the people on this thread are GNLN brokers and a subpoena to Yahoo will prove that. The so called double blind tests are a joke. The homeopathic loophole that GUMM/MTXX used to get this product into the consumer market is NOW coming back to haunt them. But, as I said the channel was already stuffed with product and the Company has been heavily discounting it. Only a fool would buy this stock now. I am sure you and the other low life brokers on this thread will advocate that retail investors buy as clearly any momentum based mutual funds are selling with abandon. Time is not on your side, nor is it on - by: gunnallenlies

FDA, SEC & Channel Stuffing - The retail channel is stuffed to the brim with MTXX product- call any retailer and see for yourself. And that was evident BEFORE Friday's national awareness of the harm that Zicam does to some people. Think how poorly it will sell now. Good Morning America is gospel to many Americans. Deny it if you like and live the lie so that you can sell your stock higher than the guy you duped, but clearly sales are going to plummet. Deny the lawsuits as well if you like, but your wallet has and will suffer more, lots more. Since the channel was already stuffed to the gills, the earnings from past quarters may well have to be adjusted downwards- big time. As well MTXX has been doing a massive amount of couponing (as any internet search will show). Thus, the average selling price has gone down significantly. It will be interesting to see how MTXX reflects this in their financials. A lot of investors will be watching- no room for fooling around w/ the #s. You think we are "NOT talking about some SEC investigation, - by: gunnallenlies

J. Gunn, Alex Rivera IUSA Manipulatio - #1: You are an A$$. #2: You have on too many occasions foretold of "New$ sCumming" and that news was invariably what came to pass. You are clearly an insider who is leaking information that is non-public. You are clearly either a): one 8 employees at MTXX or b) you are a GNLN broker. If you are not J. Gunn then you certainly work for him. #3: Without GNLN or Sovereign Equity (really the same firm given all the people involved from J. Gunn who worked at Sovereign along with Alex Rivera and a host of brokers that joined GNLN from Sovereign) on the bid, MTXX will be a $3 stock. The manipulation is and always has been GNLN assisted by inside information from MTXX/GUMM. #4: Thus the manipulation is and always has been GNLN along w/ MTXX mgmt. Those who doubt this will see soon enough if/when GNLN goes away and is not using CINN or other ECNs to hide their actions. Ie if/when GNLN is shut down, the stock goes to $3. Watch and see. #5: As for lawsuits, it is GNLN and MTXX managements who will have all the - by: gunnallenlies

Dan Zimmerman, IUSA, Vlad, Veribull etc - Are and always have been GUMM insiders. 80% of the posters on this board are Gunn Allen Stock Brokers as any subpoena will prove. Further GNLN has not disclosed the nominee accounts that it operates via Schwab CyberTrader (showing up as SCHB) and TimberHill/Interactive Brokers (routed via NITE). Rudy Gunn controls 60% of MTXX stock and won't it be fun to talk to all the customers whose accounts got stuffed with GUMM/MTXX stock? All the ex brokers who opened all those cold call accounts with a supposed Biotech stock (again fraud GUMM/MTXX is no such thing, in fact it is not even homeopathic) are also talking and will talk even more when the Feds come to talk.... The movements of this stock prior to "New$ sCumming" and the insider comments posted here on the thread tie to massive illegally prepared trade tickets based upon inside information. GNLN must go bye bye. and yes InvestorUSA You are an ASS. Are you Rudy Gunn himself or just another one of his puppets? Tell the truth for once in your life. - by: gunnallenlies

Rudy Gunn, Alex Rivera, Bill Hemelt etc - Your games of 8 years are uppppp! You have continued to commit fraud on a vast scale and have left tracks all over the place. GUMM was is and always will be a Fraud from the day the Utah corporation was formed. That your latest incarnation of product is taking peoples sense of taste and smell away is criminal. YOU knew it and did not advise anyone. You tell the puppets to do as you say and now it is time for you to pay. All those manipulated NASDAQ open and closing prints can all be tied back to GNLN. Further, any fool can tell that while GNLN makes 40-50% of the stock in any month, that GNLN is NOT reflecting customer buy and sell orders. You report 500,000 shares traded at GNLN yet your bids or offers at the inside market are less than 1,000 total shares for the entire month. This is and always has been a clear violation of SEC and NASD rules and is easy to prove that you did it. GNLN is a retail firm. You should have reflected retail orders, you have not. This means YOU Rudy GUNN and Alex Rivera h - by: gunnallenlies

Opponents of alternative medicine argue that the field is filled with crackpots who deceive and defraud consumers and wreak havoc by resorting to unscientific treatments.

SWOOP DOWN LIKE A GIANT CONDOR

It's entirely possible that it could be
recalled one day! Think about it! That's never happened to a
homeopathic remedy...ever!

Think about how the media and Feds (FDA)
could swoop down on this like a Giant Condor. On and on and on.

Zicam® Induced Anosmia

Bruce W. Jafek, MD
Miriam Linschoten, Ph. D.
Bruce W. Murrow, MD, Ph. D.

Denver, CO

Introduction: Zinc is extensively utilized throughout the body,
supporting the activity of approximately 100 enzymes, the im-
mune system, wound healing, the senses of taste and smell, and
DNAsynthesis. Zinc supports normal growth and development.
The deleterious effects of both deficiency and toxicity (acute and
chronic) are described. Beneficial zinc absorption takes place via
enteral, parenteral, or cutaneous routes. Direct application to the
olfactory epithelium, on the other hand, has long been known to
be toxic, producing anosmia. This toxicity is thought to be due to
the direct effect of the divalent zinc ions on olfactory receptor
cells. Apparently overlooking this toxicity, however, intranasal
Zicam® (zinc gluconate) has recently been recommended as a
treatment for the common cold.

Methods: We will present a series of patients with post- Zicam®
anosmia. The mechanism of drug toxicity will be analyzed.
Results: While interindividual variation in drug response and
drug toxicity is apparent, post- Zicam® anosmia appears to be
dose- related and permanent.
Conclusion: Zinc ions remain toxic to human olfactory epithe-
lium, and continued reports of total, probably irreversible,
anosmia, can be expected as long as intranasal zinc gluconate gel
(Zicam®) continues to be used. The recent extension of the use
of Zicam® to the pediatric age group is particularly alarming
since this group is less likely to be able to describe the anosmia.
Immediate discontinuation of the use of intranasal zinc recom-
mended.
