It goes back to why you become a politician in the first place. Republicans like Bush, Reagan, Nixon, were motivated by serving (or, more accurately, saving) the republic. The Democrats pursue self-glorification by giving a voice to the slothful and traitorous.

Only a moral sewer rat could choose the later, and still look himself in the mirror. No doubt Kerry looks forward every day to looking himself in the mirror...
