Thanks! I saw that article several months ago and I just emailed the writer for an update. I will post the response if I get any.

OK, so it may just be a hoax, or no interest in pursuing it. The author sent me a reply. He has no plan on any follow-up, and the woman who did the research has since retired (or maybe forced out?) from her DOE job and the work was never published. He also said that his article brought forth a number raised serious questions about the authenticity of the work and those questions haven't been answered. So it doesn't look very good.
