This is the pattern. First, bury the story. (In the past that would be the end of it). Oooops, Drudge finds it. Ignore it. It keeps spreading via the Internet. OK, mention it in passing and ridicule it. No luck, its still there and now everyone's curiosity is piqued. OK, label it right wing rumor. No good. All right FINE!!!! Report on it indignantly. Now lets up the Bush went AWOL stories. In fact, not only did Bush go AWOL, while he was flying in the Air National Guard, he strafed African American Neighborhoods.
