I believe that the invasion was premeditated and deliberate. Hussein was doomed no matter the response.

I disagree. If Hussein had thrown open the door like South Africa, led our inspectors to the missiles that were in violation, not pushed back when U2 overflights were required and so on, then I think war would have been avoided. This would have been him showing the world he wanted to live up to his obligations.

Just allowing inspectors into the country was not "complying", it was "stringing along".

He didn't comply and war wasn't avoided. Now we just need to make our exit as speedy as possible, leaving as stable a situation as we can.

Remember the PS at the bottom of my post. Your post leads to the conclusion above...I believe that the invasion was premeditated and deliberate. Hussein was doomed no matter the response.

Just curious, Al.
Let's say you're correct that the
"invasion was premeditated and deliberate".

Why do you think that was so?
What were the real motivations and goals?

Al, The UN had inspectors in there and iraq was open to many more

No, Iraq wasn't. Hence the main reason why inspections were a charade.
