From the INq, not necessarily known for it pro intel stance: Intel Pentium 4 spanks Apple Mac G5 Out of 77 benchmarks, X86 won 58 By INQUIRER staff: Friday 13 February 2004, 08:14 A LENGTHY REPORT on the capabilities of Intel-based versus Mac G5s has concluded that despite claims from Apple, the X86 is winning the benchmark battle. A report on Rob Galbraith's Digital Photography Insights concluded that in 58 out of 77 tests, the PC was faster. Or, to put it another way, the Mac beat up the PC in only 19 marks. Technically, the chip tested was a Xeon. But everyone but Intel admits that the only real difference between Xeons and Pentium 4s is that the former brand name is shorter. Just think what might have happened if there were dual Pentium M machines. The lengthy report can be found here, and suggests Apple will have to work that much faster if it is to fend off faster chips like Tejas that are in the works. µ theinquirer.net
