Ann, in this election, military and security will be a big issue. We already see the Democrats have wrested the initiative from the Repubs on this issue and has Bush on the defensive on his military service. Probably there is nothing much to it there. But as long as you have the Repubs on the defensive, the less KArl Rove gets the opportunity to launch his attack.

There is a perception there that the Dems are usually soft on Defense. To counter that you need someone with Kerry's background who also understands and belongs to the party which believes that there are "two Americas". Edwards lacks that military background. Besides, on the Jay Leno show he was asked about the negative perceptions of lawyers in general. I am not so sure that he fielded that question well.
