What is about the neoconservative philosophy that you like?

I do believe in taking out dictatorships and replacing them with democracies, provided we can use international forces to keep the peace for years afterwards. That sort of operation takes hundreds of thousands, if not millions of troops. Not happening now, though.

When I was 11, I used to think like that too! Only kidding! <g>

Seriously, I think your grand scheme could work but it would be a huge amount of work. Democracy is better when the people discover it on their own and want it. Superimposing it can work but from what I've seen, it usually has a long germination period and can try one's soul. Germany is an good example of one of those long efforts.

>I am confused by this statement. You used to think that Bush I should have taken out Saddam but now you've changed your mind? Can you elaborate?

Yes. I thought we should've taken him out in '91, but heck, I was 11 years old then. Looking back now, there's no way that we were set to handle a vacuum in Iraq then -- it'd even be worse than it is now!

When you were 11, did your parents spank you hard for saying "pish"? <g>

You're right......this is turning into more of a nightmare than I thought as well. I'm learning its hard to keep the Iraqis happy as well as keep their attention for any length of time!

Z Re... That sort of operation takes hundreds of thousands, if not millions of troops. Not happening now, though.

When you add up all of the troops, coalition forces, trained local police forces, etc, there are well over 200,000 in Iraq, plus another 50,000 in Afghanistan.

Looking back now, there's no way that we were set to handle a vacuum in Iraq then -- it'd even be worse than it is now!

It wasn't how to handle the vacuum in Iraq, that stopped us from going to Bagdad, it was controlling the Shites in Iran, which was considered the main problem in the ME then.
