Have you thought about a career as a travel writer? That post made me want to leap on the next flight North.

But of course, you realize that was the somewhat romanticized view of this part of the world. The downside is that spring and early summer are also the season of blackflies and mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds that practically carry you off into the bush. And did I mention the COLD and just how COLD -15F feels when you're out for your morning walk? I just came in from a half-hour walk through the fields and my nostrils are frozen in the "full-oxygen" position -- the moisture in your breath freezes inside and makes your nose feel sort of like it's made of plastic.. (o:

But the bad seems to be outweighed by the good. Lots of sunny days with terrific sunrises and sunsets and the coolest cloud formations. Miles of forests and so many lakes that you can't even begin to count them on a map. Lots of wildlife everywhere. It's a really wonderful place for people who like to spend their lives outdoors.

This is the Galleria

Egad. The Galleria has more stores than my entire county. And more movie screens.

And I mean that literally, not figuratively.

And, I should add, more ice skating rinks!
