Book: Bush was arrested for cocaine in 1972
Texas author J.H. Hatfield claims the Republican front-runner did community service at a Houston center.

Oct. 18, 1999 | A new book by Texas author J.H. Hatfield claims that George W. Bush was arrested for cocaine possession in 1972, but had his record expunged with help from his family's political connections. In an afterword to his book "Fortunate Son: George W. Bush and the Making of an American President" (St. Martin's), Hatfield says he took a second look at the Bush cocaine allegations after a story in Salon reporting allegations that Bush did community service for the crime at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Houston's Third Ward.

The center's executive director, Madgelean Bush (no relation to George W. Bush), had told Salon News and others that Bush did not do community service there, and the Bush campaign likewise denied the allegation. But the Texas governor had admitted to working at Houston's Project P.U.L.L. in 1972, and Hatfield says he began to wonder if that was actually the community service sentence. Hatfield says he confirmed those suspicions with three sources close to the Bush family he had cultivated while writing his biography, which publishes Wednesday.

Fortunate Son:
The Rise of George W. Bush & The Next Generation of Politics
By J.H. Hatfield

Bush's campaign denied Hatfield's allegation Monday.

By contrast, "First Son: George W. Bush and the Family Dynasty," by Dallas Morning News reporter Bill Minutaglio, says George Bush Sr. referred his son to Project P.U.L.L. after an incident in which George W. drove drunk with his younger brother Marvin in the car.

But Hatfield quotes "a high-ranking advisor to Bush" who confirmed that Bush was arrested for cocaine possession in Houston in 1972, and had the record expunged by a judge who was "a fellow Republican and elected official" who helped Bush get off "with a little community service at a minority youth center instead of having to pick cotton on a Texas prison farm."

Hatfield quotes a former Yale classmate who told him: "George W. was arrested for possession of cocaine in 1972, but due to his father's connections, the entire record was expunged by a state judge whom the older Bush helped get elected. It was one of those 'behind closed doors in the judges' chambers' kind of thing between the old man and one of his Texas cronies who owed him a favor ... There's only a handful of us that know the truth."

Another source named only as "a longtime Bush friend" described the situation this way: "Say you get a D in algebra ... and now you're going to be required to repeat the class the following year, but your teacher says if you promise to be tutored during the summer by a friend of hers who's good in math, she'll change the D to a C. You spend a few hours a week during the summer vacation learning all about arithmetical operations and relationships, and then the teacher issues you a new report card, replacing the old one on file in the principal's office ... Something akin to that scenario is what happened with Bush in 1972."

Hatfield also says that when he asked Scott McClellan to comment on the allegation of a former Yale classmate of Bush's that the presidential hopeful was arrested for cocaine possession in 1972 and had his record expunged in exchange for community service at Project P.U.L.L., the Bush campaign spokesman said, sotto voce, "Oh, shit," followed by, "No comment."

McClellan denies that the exchange ever occurred. "I never spoke to the guy, and I'm not aware that anyone at the campaign has spoken to him," he told Salon News.

Did Bush Cause 4 Abortions?
21-Aug-03
Bush Abortion

Jackson Thoreau writes, "Right before Bush was selected by his Supreme Court buddies in 2000, porn czar Larry Flynt went on CNN to say he had evidence that Bush impregnated a young woman in the early 1970s and made her get an illegal abortion at a Houston hospital... Flynt's main source, the girlfriend of a Bush friend who allegedly arranged the abortion, reportedly backed out of going public at the last hour. So the story pretty much died there and was swallowed in the 2000 election heist and ensuing fascist hijacking of our country... [But] this source learned that Bush might have impregnated FOUR young women, one of whom was UNDER 18, which is against the law in most states. At least one supposedly had to be sent out of the country to get the abortion done... Has anyone out there heard anything more about these women Bush allegedly impregnated and forced to get abortions? I'd appreciate hearing from you. I'd like to attempt to breathe some fire into this story again."

With Bush Focused on Outlawing Abortions, Will the Media Report on Bush's Own Illegal Abortion?

Bush Abortion
In 2000, Bartcop reported, "In the winter of 1971 Bush was dating a woman named Robin Lowman (now Robin Garner). Miss Lowman became pregnant by Smirk and he arranged for her to have an abortion - which in the great state of Texas in 1971 was very illegal! The unnamed source of this story, was a friend of Robin Lowman's and the girlfriend of the man who arranged the abortion. His name is Robert Carl Chandler [who arranged] Miss Lowman's abortion at the Twelve Oaks Hospital in Houston, TX (now the Bayou City Medical Center). The source overheard the call by Mr. Chandler to arrange the abortion and the source visited Robin Lowman at the Twelve Oaks Hospital after the procedure. The source meanwhile, is afraid of coming forward, saying that she was threatened by Chandler and another Bush friend and supporter named Jim Bath. Bath has longstanding intelligence connections, and played a role in the BCCI scandal. Robin Lowman (now Garner) is married to Jerry Lee Garner who is an FBI agent."

Why Won't the Media Report Bush's OWN Abortion?
22-Jan-03
Bush Abortion
During the 2000 campaign, Bush downplayed his fierce opposition to abortion in order to fool women voters and the NY Times. Naturally, the NY Times swallowed the Bushit hook, line & sinker. But now that Bush is waging a "War on Women" (as the NY Times recently declared), subjects all judicial nominees to an anti-choice litmus test, and phoned abortion opponents on Roe v. Wade day, isn't it time for the NY Times and the rest of the corporate media to tell the truth about Bush and abortion? First, on policy and personnel issues Bush IS an anti-abortion extremist. Second, Bush is an utter hypocrite because - according to the usually reliable Larry Flynt - his own girlfriend had an abortion in Texas when it was still illegal before 1973. This is a story all of the White House reporters knows, but no one will report. Women are dying around the world because of Bush's extremism and hypocrisy - we demand the truth!

Protest Bush's OWN Abortion on April 22

Bush Abortion
On April 22, NOW and a large coalition of feminist groups are organizing an Emergency Action for Women's Lives in Washington DC to protest Bush's policies on abortion and other critical issues. There is one important aspect of Bush's position on abortion that has NOT received any coverage: namely Bush's OWN abortion when he got his girlfriend pregnant in the early 1970's. At the time, abortion was illegal - so Bush was involved in a crime. This story was exposed by Larry Flynt on CNN, but CNN then SCRUBBED the story. It's time for Americans to demand an answer from Bush - did he get a girlfriend pregnant and cause an abortion? Did he help her break the law? Is abortion OK for him, but not for anyone else?

Was George W. Bush "Involved" in an Illegal Abortion?
24-Oct-00
Bush Abortion
On CNN's Crossfire on October 20, Larry Flynt exploded a bombshell: that he has evidence that George W. Bush was "involved in an abortion in Texas" in the early 1970's - when abortions were still illegal. Amazingly, CNN has censored its own story by removing the entire transcript! We posted the relevant parts, but this has all the markings of a cover-up by CNN - just like the cover-ups of Bush's many other scandals, from going AWOL, to using illegal drugs, to corruption in Texas government, to lying under oath. It looks like the Bush campaign has people quietly removing evidence of Bush's many scandals. When will the media wake up???

Woman Denies Rumors of Kerry Affair

NAIROBI, Kenya - A woman who has been the subject of rumors linking her to Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) denied Monday that she ever had an affair with the Democratic presidential candidate.

Breaking her silence four days after the allegations surfaced on the Internet, Alexandra Polier issued a statement to The Associated Press, saying, "I have never had a relationship with Senator Kerry, and the rumors in the press are completely false."

Kerry already has denied reports that he had an extramarital affair. On Monday, his campaign said he would have no further comment.

Polier's statement was released to the AP in Nairobi, where the 27-year-old freelance journalist is visiting the parents of her fiance, Yaron Schwartzman, an Israeli who was raised in Kenya. She previously worked as an editorial assistant for the AP in New York.

"Whoever is spreading these rumors and allegations does not know me," Polier said, appealing to the media to respect her privacy and the privacy of her fiance and his family.

Polier also took issue with reports that referred to her as a former Kerry intern.

"I never interned or worked for John Kerry," she told AP over the phone.

In a separate statement, Polier's parents, Terry and Donna Polier of Malvern, Pa., dismissed the "completely false and unsubstantiated" allegations about their daughter.

"We love and support her 100 percent and these unfounded rumors are hurtful to our entire family," the statement said. "We appreciate the way Senator Kerry has handled the situation, and intend on voting for him for president of the United States."

The statement did not address purported quotes by Polier's parents in the British tabloid The Sun that were harshly critical of Kerry.

Kerry has won 14 of 16 Democratic primaries and caucuses, and is expected to be the Democratic challenger to President Bush (news - web sites) in November.

Rumors of a relationship between Kerry and Polier first appeared Thursday on the Internet and were picked up by newspapers in several countries outside the United States. Few U.S. publications printed her name, however.

Asked Friday about the reports, Kerry told reporters: "I just deny it categorically. It's rumor. It's untrue. And that's the last time I intend" to respond to questions about it.

Regarding her silence until now, Polier said, "Because these stories were false, I assumed the media would ignore them. It seems that efforts to peddle these lies continue, so I feel compelled to address them."

By Monday, reporters and photographers were camped outside the Schwartzmans' Nairobi home, and at one point pursued the car of Yaron's mother, Hannah Schwartzman, as she left the walled compound.

Polier and Yaron Schwartzman met at Columbia University. They arrived in Kenya last October.

Polier graduated from Clark University in Worcester, Mass., in 1999. She received her master's in journalism from Columbia in 2003.
