If the reports I've seen (but can't put my hands on right now) are true, Novak is in serious trouble. He was allegedly told by high officials not to go public with the Plame stuff.

Though I see a lot of legal wrangling on the point, I admit it's possible that leaking the stuff to Novak was a crime in the first place. But if there was an attempt to repair the damage before it was done, the leakers are going to look a lot better than Novak, who spread the story over God's half-acre.

Novak's potential liability for failing to heed the warnings might explain why he was so helpful to the Bushies after the story first came out.
