"Many of those verses on The Sermon on the Mount were symbolic and were not meant to be literal."

You could rationalize the whole Bible like that if you want. Let your conscience be your guide.

Buddy, does your "Christlike" Bill Clinton let his conscience be his guide?

Interesting that you are compelled to bring up the word conscience.

Let's see it again:

If you have read the Bible,Jesus many times spoke in parables. Unfortunately the Pharisees didn't understand as their hearts were hardened to the truth he spoke. Many times his words were directed to us inwardedly and without the understanding from ones heart his words just confused people.

I would encourage you to go see the new film "The Passion of Christ" as many who witnessed the teachings of Christ finally figured out he was The Messiah.

I think you also need to realize that Jesus also mentioned taxes and money in the Bible. He said "Render to Ceasar what is Ceasars and what to God is Gods". He also said that not money but the love of money is the root of all evil. We would all be much better off if we would follow these teachings as well as The Ten Commandments which are being taken off many public buildings today.

Is there something wrong with this equation? My dollar bill still says "In God we Trust".
