True, but the May/December affairs where the male is an important, powerful type who promises but does not deliver and the female is immature and impressionable are nothing but dynamite waiting to be lit.

I do not question that for a moment.

Women who get into these things are, IMO, generally more than merely immature; they "have some issues." What woman who has it together would hook up with someone who doesn't treat her as an equal? I feel sorry for them.

The other typical motivation is mercenary, where she presumably gets what she bargained for or gets out.

It's likely you can think of an example you personally know about.

A young woman with whom I went to college pursued and married a Supreme Court justice.

Yes, absolutely. Doonesbury had a right-on strip about the time of the Gennifer Flowers hoo-ha. Zonker was running a "contest" where you had to answer questions. This was the essay question: "You are in love with a married father of two with Presidential ambitions. You believe you have a future together. Explain."
