Anyone who has seen people in mating rituals (adult people) should know that lying, or at the very least exaggerating exuberantly, is extremely common and important. I think there ARE studies out there dealing with adults, who aren't very different from teenagers- in fact in many cases there is no difference at all. I am surprised anyone would think lying is not a successful strategy- so many people do it, and so often, it is obviously tempting- and those things that people are tempted to do, even though they are not "approved" of, they do because they work. Use follows functionality, especially where a practice is widespread.
