Marcos,

Thanks for the granularity on the mobilization for the naked aggression in Iraq. Of course, you are correct, the massive movement that started in the summer of 2002 was specifically of the tools of war and not the troops.

Re: any case, all this too could have been seen as bargaining chips, for getting together an alliance to resolve the issue ...

Here you've started out well. There was "plausible deniability' that the purpose of being served in the summer of 2002 was naked aggression and plunder. But you lose your argument when suggesting that this was for purposes of coalition building. Clearly, bringing the war machine to the Middle East was designed for purposes of intimidation of the enemy, not providing incentives to allies.

Notes in the Margin: Carl/Bilow is one the contributors on SI that I value more than almost anyone else. (As well as you, Subcommandante!) While a few of his predictions don't pan out, his presentation of fact is second to none on SI. And there is a razor-sharp focus on what matters, in an Alice-In-Wonderland world where the media appears perfectly contented to self-delude, or better yet, to act as mere bootlickers and court stenographers for the likes of Scottie-Dog McClellan, "Tory" Clarke and other horrors of the prevaricator-for-hire subspecies.
