AS, It's amazing that Kerry has re-emerged to take the lead in the Democratic race. We both were writing his obit only a month ago, as Dean took the lead. Now Dean has crashed into the electability wall, which leaves Kerry to make the final run for the checkered flag.

Kerry is doing well in the early polling against Bush. The only thing that could hurt Kerry now is a Gore endorsement!

LOL...stole that one from SNL.

AS,
Admit it--you're in love.
Chris Matthews just had interesting panel discussing what else?...candidates military service. Chris is same age as Bush&Kerry and therefore knows intimately the political climate at the time. He highlighted the fact that the national support for war in 1966(Kerry entered Navy)had changed dramatically by 1968(Bush entered National Guard). In '66 there were about 60 fatalities in Vietnam, the war was fresh & young men often enlisted to demonstrate their patriotism; however, by 1968 the Tet Offensive had occurred & also tens of thousands of casualties. Especially on college campuses, the atmosphere had turned negative & war protesters had organized.

Matthews contacted the Alabama Guardsman who remembered GW as an air national guardsman in his unit. He stated that politics permeated the air in the Guard at that time & most of those from ALA were Democrats. The man remembered Bush but said because GW was a Republican, he didn't exactly blend in with the others. He also said it was common to have airman transferred from other units.
