Just my opinion. We tend to hunker down with our Prez unless there is a clear cut better choice. Clinton's popularity was still huge after the disgraceful impeachment Starr chamber.

Ford lost because of Nixon.

Carter lost because RR was the magic communicator and because of the hostages.

Because of his style and attempts at putting together a comprehensive platform, I think Edwards would have been a better choice and would have a better chance at beating the President.

Just my opinion.

Othewise, we have stuck with the Prez. I felt Mondale would make a much better Prez in many ways. But he made the mistake of staying with the typical liberal profile. Dukakis probably the most honest man in American politics - same.
