It's not that much about the "Bush was AWOL" issue. I think that’s a bit of a red herring. I think what the Democrats are trying to do is highlight that Bush received "special treatment" by jumping to the front of the line to avoid Vietnam - the War of his day and time. That info comes out indirectly. The current Republican strategy is to try and portray Bush as a strong "war leader". This indirect information highlighted by the democratic strategy makes it an almost ironic approach by the Republicans, especially now compared to Kerry - thrice wounded in 'Nam. I think the Dem's have been quite clever.

"He was moved to the head of the line to get into the gaurd and then no one remembers him." Just saw someone (Calhoun) on CNN say he did remember him. And where is the evidence he went to the front of the line? "I admit that it's shaky evidence" Good enough for the dems to accuse him of AWOL (punishable by jail time), and some dem supporters to say desertion (punishable by death). A creepy tactic to accuse with "shaky evidence". Closer to no evidence as he was honorably discharged and there is no paperwork or people (other than demo hacks like their leader Terry McAullif) saying it is so. CNN also just put up a poll that 66% of the people say this not a legit concern. 30% (most of them Bush haters I would guess) say it is legit. I hope they keep it up. Will only help Bush.
