He's been open about the alcoholism. As for the National Guard, I think VietNam is a non-issue for both Kerry and Bush.

Bush is vulnerable if rapid improvement is not had in Iraq. He also is vulnerable on the economy.

Many of us here, including myself, want fine-tuned programs and highly "moral" politicians, as we each define programs and morality.

Unfortunately, it tends to boil down to the simplicity of war and the economy. That's why the challenger needs to divert attention to a dynamic platform and/or a charisma unmatched by the incumbent.

This explains Perot's meteroic rise and fall. He was perceived as a new voice with a real plan. When the people saw he was a nut, he self-destructed, helping make sure that the Clinton defeated Bush.

So far Kerry has neither the program nor the charisma to overcome the incumbency IMO.
