Leave the man alone...he doesn't know...leave the man alone". Sadly, I think Al is rights. Remember in the pre 9/11 days, when he did not have the unfortunate benefit of that dreaded disaster, and we were all saying just how dumb this man seemed and how he gave the impression that he had to be choreographed into being a front for a complex political machine behind him? As the memory of 9/11 fades, we get quickly back to the notion that American is in the hands of a man of pedestrian intellect, very much under the influence of others. There is the cheney/rumsfeld faction that controls foreign policy and the hughes/rove stay on message faction that controls domestic policy. And this poor guy is in the middle awash in things he does not understand very well, unable to tie it all together and keep from being manipulated and left only with the simplest of choices, which is to listen to others and try to win re-election....and things are not going well... Yeah, I got it this weekend when they showed Bush talking at the Nascar races. It was clear he was working real hard to be liked. I am sure his handlers are pushing him hard........and in the past, being liked has come pretty naturally for him. But that's changing......previously, he was only catching sh*t from the liberals......but now its from all sides. Of course, the problem is that for a long time, the guy has let other people set his course for him and push him ever higher. It was only a matter of time before he would get in over his head. And the resulting mess will be for the rest of us to clean up. So, yeah, I felt a little sorry for him but it lasted for all of a minute. When he gets finished trashing the WH, he'll get a cushy job and live in style the rest of his life. ted
