Because of the heterogeneous nature of its population and long standing emnity among those people Iraq is about the worst place to try to establish a democracy that would be an example to te rest of the me. Iran would be much better but I get the sense they will end up getting there without much help from us. Egypt could work but they would need massive financial aid and foreign investment. Meanwhile the oil rich monarchies would undermine our efforts. In some ways it all comes back to oil wealth and we as a nation have not shown the fortitude to stop being a customer and wean ourselves from oil.
