Part of the problem is that the Democrats don't offer a realistic alternative to the Republican Capital-Uber-Alles economic program that is constantly being shoved down our throats as the only way to operate our economy. Gray Davis of California is a perfect example. If he actually could have taken on the electric utiltities and stopped their rip-off of his constituents, if he could have come up with a program to redirect the states resources to help those hit by the tech bubble burst, if he could have shown more fiscal restraint in the fat years, he probably would still be in office as people would view him as a viable alternative.

The Dems on the national level could do the same, provide a real alternative vision to the Republican never ending cycle of war and greed. Tell America that we'll pull out of Iraq and use those resources to rebuild our own country, prove that you can have a strong environment and a strong economy, take steps to make it harder for corporations to off-shore American jobs, etc. Provide a real alternative to the extreme capitalism exposed by the Republicans. Not just Republican-lite as they usually do.
