Good thoughtful post. I realize there are different ways of looking at things, particularly with difficult social issues. I do see the war on terrorism in a little more black and white way than many other issues though. When our goals to eliminate terrorism are opposed, it gives the terrorists more strength imo. The idea of taking a brutal dictator in violation of international law out of action and allowing a middle eastern nation the opportunity for freedom and democracy to "take hold" could do more to help in the war on terrorism than any amount of chasing people around in the mountains could do alone. Our principals are not being eroded. We are giving a group that would not otherwise have had the chance to embrace our principals a chance. If they take hold, the whole region (which is the breeding ground for terrorism and hatred of the western world) will be better off. And I don't really care if there are a bunch of people that hate us. Up until the point where they are killing large amounts of innocent people in an attempt to end our way of life. Up until the point that they declare war on us with declarations of more a larger brutal attacks. Too dangerous to allow that to continue.

That seems "black and white" to me. We need a leader with realistic plans and concrete actions to achieve these goals. The unlimited number of un-inforced resolutions and continual appeasement is too dangerous and more importantly too ineffective.

And even though you think I am wrong, I appreciate you laying out your thoughts and making this a real discussion.
