Kerry Leads Bush by 5 Percentage Points in CBS Poll of Voters Feb. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, who's leading the race for the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, beat George W. Bush by 5 percentage points in a CBS News poll of voters published today. About 48 percent of respondents said they would vote for Kerry in a presidential race against Bush, while 43 percent said they would vote for the incumbent in a telephone survey of 1,221 adults conducted last week, CBS News said on its Web site. The poll has a margin of error of three percentage points. In a similar poll conducted in December, Bush prevailed over an unnamed Democratic candidate 49 percent to 40 percent, CBS News said. In last week's poll, 47 percent of respondents said they would choose a ``Democratic candidate,'' while 42 percent said they would vote for Bush in November's election. Bush's support has slipped on voter concern over the economy and on decreasing belief that the war on Iraq was justified by an immediate threat, CBS News said. Meanwhile, Kerry is winning the majority of Democratic support, with 53 percent of Democrats favoring him over four other primary candidates, the poll showed. quote.bloomberg.com
