In Heinlein's story you could serve in non-military also. The South is a larger than average participant in the military. I disagree that the Democratic party would find any advantage but the larger question would be "would the nation be better". The rich just aren't that large a voting bloc.

I believe that John Stuart Mills proposed a system where the higher educated you were the more votes you got. eg. A university proffessor might get 6 votes and a factory worker only 1 vote.

I think this would be superior system for the Democrats because most republicans are inbred high school drop outs.

Class it is, huh buddy. You're right. Check out the hard-luck stories of so many of our conscripts. Many single mothers, many high school diplomas. Do you think when they volunteered for the Reserves, they knew it would mean 12 months in Iraq?
