Edwards has great populist appeal in rural areas in particular. If he does wel in Wisconsin, it moves him up on the VP list. SO far no one has been able to single out any state Edwards brings to the ticket. But everyone agrees he's a star of the future. Edwards has not been critiqued by anyone for many months. If he starts attacking Kerry he'll quickly discover why Kerry is #1. PS: 25% of the voters today are Republicans. They might have voted against Kerry just to help Bush. Check the polls.
