Quanta Computer to invest NT$2 billion on LCD TV business

David Tzeng, Taipei; Carrie Yu, DigiTimes.com [Wednesday 18 February 2004]

Taiwan-based Quanta Computer plans to invest NT$2 billion in its LCD TV business and expects to ship 400,000 units in 2004, up from its earlier projection of 100,000 units, according to the company.

The higher shipment forecast follows Quanta landing an order for about 300,000 14-inch LCD TVs from Panasonic. The TVs will be aimed at niche markets such as hospitals and railway or bus stations.

Quanta ships 23- and 26-inch LCD TVs that are already on the market to Gateway and will produce a 26-inch LCD TV that Acer will launch in the second quarter.

Quanta based its LCD TV development team, now exceeding 100 staff, in a factory building due to insufficient space at its headquarters in the Hwaya Technology Park. Both sites are in Kweishan, Taoyuan County.
