Duke compares with Stanford, not the public UC system The top three or four UC Universities outrank both Duke and Stanford. One of the beauties of the UC system has been it's variety of Schools. I had a family friend who is one of the top Cardiologists in the Country. He did his pre-med at a State College in Fullerton, and his med at UC-San Diego. He had a huge practice in Vegas, and is now a full Professor of Cardiology at UC San Diego. He will be the next Dept Head of the Cardiology Department, if he isn't already. The "hole" in the system is the Liberal Arts/Social Science Departments. Nothing but Political cesspools. They need to cut them down and spend more money on Engineering. It is outrageous that the Engineering Departments don't turn out grads comparable to the top Schools in India.
