It would be 'a relatively good number' if the methodology for counting the unemployed was the same in the two periods... but our current situation finds us with far larger numbers of people who have exhausted their unemployment compensation, and so have dropped off of the 'official' government rolls of the unemployed... but who still can't find work.

I wouldn't get so all-fired worked up about the fractional difference in this unemployment statistic, when so many are not counted in the number.
