If it seems to good to be true ...
In my previous post I had linked cleardome solar. Their thermal drapes (to store/capture/retain heat) seemed to defy logic, and also costly for what may be just garbage bag plastic for $49.
Unlike gfx technology which has been vetted by universities, DoE, and Bob Vila himself, this seemed to be marketing with a bunch of science thrown in.
I felt I could not judge it, so looked for either others selling similar products with less markup, or using similar ideas.
When I happened by this gold mine of info on Passive Solar! This guy Nick Pine is in the Phila area, for those close by. He has extensive posting on some alt.solar.thermal but has thoughtfully collected his musings in one place.
BTW he has heard of gfx, and is ok with it.
He debunks cleardome's product in one of his posts as snake oil.
The bldg in cold cloudy Vermont built in the 50's using active solar technology is very interesting See Solar Heat in Snow country.
