>>"I think John would have found a way to serve even if Wade hadn't died, but I think that loss may have forced John to really look at his life and all the things he wanted to accomplish outside the law," said J. Rich Leonard, a friend and federal bankruptcy judge.

Frequently on the campaign trail, Edwards meets people who want to share their tragedies. He's at his best during these encounters, the populist anger and occasional awkwardness of his stump speech replaced by a soft, sad gentility.

"Nothing in my life has ever hit me and stripped everything away like my son's death," Edwards wrote in his book, "Four Trials." "As much as anyone is Wade is who I am."<<

I noticed the book titled "Four Trials" at the John Edwards website but did not realize he wrote it.

The Edwards tragedy is so sad. Many couples can't recover from the death of a child & their marriages often dissolve but John & Elizabeth have had 2 children since then, ages 5&3.
