You are assuming that age of death is an independent variable. But in order to die at 80, one has to not die at 1,2,...79. Estimating life expectancy is not the same as taking an average of age at death.

I said gun deaths, not murders. Gun death is one of the leading causes of death in city dwellers whose ages are between 5-19. Because of the way in which life expectancy is figured, deaths that occur early in life have a much greater effect on life expectancy than deaths that occur later in life. This is why a black male 5 year old living in the city has an expectation of living to 64 and a white female 5 year old living in the suburb has an expectation of living to 85, almost 20 additional years!

Don't take my word for it, take "life expectancy 101":

One could also subtract out the traffic fatalities and other accident deaths.

1. average age of traffic deaths is 32 in michigan.
