I am listening to "Blue Velvet" (Bobby Vinton) while working. When I was a little one, perhaps seven, my paternal grandparents would take my family to Sunday dinner at the Oakland Inn, a restaurant in the suburbs that served "family style". Waiting for a table, I would stand near the small bar and peak into various rooms of people happily eating their fried chicken or roast beef, with mashed potatoes in bowls and iced tea in pitchers, with big platters of meat in the center. I would be aching to have dinner. And in the background would play "Blue Velvet", a brooding tribute to desire.......
