"Srexely, can we say it's unfair for the top 1% to pay 36% of the taxes"

According to Jerkey, it is 43%. To me that point suggests everyone should pay exactly their respective percentages. And that will hurt the bottom 50% who pay almost NOTHING. Assuming Jerkey is right (and it does look like it is), what percentage should these people pay?

"Also, are you talking about federal income taxes"

Yes. I believe I stated that.

"or are you including payroll taxes"

Social Security? That is a pension plan, not a tax, right? Everyone who makes over $90,000 (or close to that) pays the MAXIMUM. Medicare maximum is now whatever you make. No caps.

"sales taxes, state taxes, property taxes"

The top 1% pay WAY MORE for all of these I am sure. Unless you think poor people have more property and possessions. Which seems unlikely.

"gasoline taxes"
A sliding gas tax, now? Come on. You pay for what you use. Jeez, you guys are GREEEEEEDY.

"The question of fairness in taxes is a complex one"

No it is NOT. That is a lie that you have bought into by dem leaders. They use a tactic of throwing out FREE MONEY to 90% of the people at the expense of 10% (who don't have much of a majority). That is so blatantly unfair on it's face that I don't see how anyone can even suggest that it is fair.

"I think, but am not sure, that the highest real rates are paid by the upper middle class wage earners, and not by the very wealthy."

Maybe. All I know is that when me and my wife worked I was doing better, and our combined income was about triple what it is now. We were not rich then, nor are we now (happier now). The point is I just did my taxes, we paid TEN TIMES as much for 3 times the income. My motivation now is to settle into this nice level and screw working twice as hard so I can pay TEN TIMES AS MUCH to live in America. If you think I am the only one that feels this way, KEEP ATTACKING THE RICH. Make them pay ALL the taxes.

It is unfair, and it will backfire.
