Hi Connor26, 2Mar$ is the pro maybe he will shed some light on the mystery.

The shorting process is odd for me too, and execution from Schwab sucks. But I seem to have no problems shorting the QQQs and SMH.

Fortunately, covering execution is instantaneous, lol.

Also -- if you have your money tied up in longer term equities (like I have in my 401K where I can't short) there are funds that go up (more or less) when the markets go down. BEARX and USPIX are 2 that I use. I wish I had thought about using them in 2001 & 2002. If there are better ones, I'd be interested in knowing about them.
