muzosi, And of those thousands that I know, they have never indicated this is the norm. My contacts include a Mayor in one of the most largest cities in India, people that originated from villages, engineers, business owners, workers in certain non-hightech industries, and some humanitarian workers.

It is incorrect to say this is the norm of the country.

It is correct to say it is practiced in certain villages by some family systems. If it was considered normal behavior, India's laws would not have made it illegal.

I believe this says it best:

"you should be careful to not paint the entire country with such a broad brush. Sick practice not sick country."

Amy J PS Do you know the candidate's economic positions? Or, are we all simply expected to vote in a vacuum with no significant tangible information on their economic policies?
