I think that it is reasonable. I guess they aren't more strict here about drunk driving because the jails are too full of drug offenders. Having lost the war on drugs makes us less likely to start one on alcohol.

A good friend of mine was killed by a guy who was driving drugged rather than drunk, they didn't even press charges against the guy. The DA said that because he was in violation of his parole and it was easier to prove, they just charged him with that. It seemed surreal at the time.

I do think there is much more awareness here now about having a designated driver than there was when I was in college, but maybe it's my age and the fact I don't drink except extremely rarely, so it's usually me. I tend to forget how many drunks are out on the road until I happen to be out on the highway at 3am on a Saturday night.
