A basic rule in politics - if your current performance won't stand up to scrutiny, talk about what the other guy did before, lie about his plans and puff up what you promise to do better in the future. Great way of avoiding the real issues. If people really believed Bush's BS, his approval ratings would be sitting around 70 and this election would be a walkover. Oops. Less than 50% do now. Maybe if he runs enough TV commercials, he can change some minds. After all, it's the American way.
