Did it actually promote atheism???? That's pretty tough to do in a backward society....they would have to reverse centuries of religious background. I doubt there's ever been a society that's been atheist. That's why I think they merely outlawed official religion and tried to destroy the organizations. And that,I think, was to eliminate an opposing political power.... I recall we were taught that the communists were atheists but that just doesn't make sense to me..... You can't crawl into a person's mind and change his religion by fiat....
