chances are the guy on the porch has a much different idea of prosperity than you have for him

it's the same for the people on the "other side of the tracks"....there are a lot of people in this country who are pretty content to live paycheck to paycheck, or, unfortunately, government check to government check...i saw, talked to and dealt with a lot of these people when i had my business, on every side of "the tracks"....i don't agree with perpetual welfare, but other than that, if people choose to spend all that they make and don't care about saving for the future, that's their choice and it's not my place to try to talk them into what i might consider to be a "wiser" lifestyle...give them a higher income or more government assistance and they will just buy more toys or party a bit more

sure some of these people complain about inflation, or busy roads, or whatever else, but complaining isn't a sign of a lack of optimism, nor it is restricted to people who have what we might consider a less affluent lifestyle...SI is perfect proof of that <G>

by the way, i don't live in the lap of luxury..i live in a nice house in a nice area of a nice town, that we picked first and foremost because of the excellent schools and proximity to our church....i would venture a guess that most of the people in this area live at or above their means, because that seems to be the way the majority of people live these days...it isn't the way i choose to live, but they like it and when i talk to them, they are overall quite optimistic, even though some of them like to complain now and then <g>

I'm sure John Kerry can fix everything within minutes of being sworn in. Not!!

<<You guys get out and around much? Or do you live in an isolated lap of luxury?>>

I did take my youngest son skiing today. $46 for HALF a day and the place was packed. It is rural here but certainly not isolated. As for the lap of luxury, life is what you make of it. Some people just refuse to make anything of theirs.

>>>See if you see some prosperity. Drive another hour. See if you see some less prosperity.

Better yet head to the "other" side of town across the tracks. Ask em how they are doing today.

a couple of weeks ago we had stops in Costa Rica, Belize, and Panama

going around the port cities there all I can say is the BEST homes and areas there were much worse than most of the WORST areas of our cities

all here is not wonderful but if one goes to most parts of the world the US is a paradise
